Disposal of medical waste - opportunity or need?

As you know, in 2020, society faced COVID-19, a new respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. According to only official data, there were about 5,000,000 cases in Russia and about 165,000,000 in the world. It is clear that, at the same time, the amount of hazardous medical waste has increased dramatically. According to the clarifications of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, medical waste generated during the treatment of those infected with COVID-19 belongs to class B waste, which is epidemiologically extremely dangerous. The procedure for handling them is strictly regulated (Russian regulatory act 2.1.7.2790-10) and a number of requirements are put forward. For example, they are packed in sealed red packaging, while sharp objects are placed in a plastic container, and not in bags. Chemical or thermal disposal implies that medical waste must be stored in a separate room dedicated specifically for this purpose. Strict requirements are also imposed on further transportation to a waste disposal site. It is carried out by specialized transport, which is equipped with devices for securing cargo and a set for emergency disinfection.

In addition to the actual waste from medical facilities, it is also necessary to take into account the large amount of used personal protective equipment (such as masks and gloves). Many states have made it mandatory for their citizens to wear them in public places. Now, according to the most conservative estimates, more than 30,000,000,000 disposable masks are thrown into the trash every year on the planet. Their total mass can reach 100,000 tons, which can negatively affect the ecological component of the entire planet.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the relevance of incinerator plants designed for the thermal disposal of various types of waste has become more urgent. In them, all waste turns into ash, which does not pose any danger to people, animals and the environment. Waste disposal equipment must comply with all applicable requirements, provide the required process temperature and have an appropriate conclusion from the state environmental review. The engineering company "Eco-Spectrum" develops and manufactures incinerators suitable for the disposal of hazardous medical waste. Automated control systems ensure that the parameters of the thermal recycling process exactly match those set on the PLC control panel, and the design eliminates any risk of harmful substances entering the environment. Medical workers have already evaluated the capabilities of this equipment. For example, one of the incinerators (model HURIKAN-1000) was delivered to the infectious diseases hospital in the prefecture of the TiNAO (Moscow) specifically for the disposal of waste generated during the treatment of patients with COVID-19. The installation is doing its job perfectly, contributing to the fight against the pandemic. You can buy an incinerator on the website of the company developer and manufacturer - the company "Eco-Spectrum".
